The last two weeks in review
Two weeks ago today was my commissioning service. It was so special to having my church give their blessing and pray over me before I left!
The next day, the day before I left, I got to see my cousin whom I hadn't seen in almost nine months and we got together to play games and catch up. I was so glad that she came to visit just in time for me to see her before I left. I was amazed at God's timing the last few day I was home!
The day of my flight I got to visit my grandparents for a little while before my flight in the evening which was such a blessing, as I said before, God was so kind to me! My first flight was shorter than anticipated. When I got to Philadelphia as soon as I got off the plane I got lost. I looked everywhere for a map but couldn't find one, (they need more maps in airports) finally I asked a flight attendant getting off a flight for directions and she was so helpful! She walked me most of the way to my gate. She was such a blessing! That flight was very long and very packed but I praise the Lord I arrived safely and managed to get through border control.... eventually... the queue was so long! Then I grabbed my bags and found my ride and made it to my apartment safely. By this time it had already become Wednesday.
Looking back I don't know why I wasn't more freaked out by traveling across the world on my own. Honestly I think I just hadn't really let it sink in fully because I knew that would've cause me to panic. Really the only time I had a proper panic attack was when I was trying to check in at the Portland jetport and the check in desk gave me the wrong information about my Visa (Essentially they told me my visa was wrong when it was perfectly fine the entire time). I didn't get that sorted till I got here and had a chance to look into it. But I left anyway knowing that God had a plan for my trip even if it wasn't the same as my own and that He would sort it out in the end.
I arrived at my new home for the next several months and I loved it! I was quite exhausted the first night (well the first week really) but I managed to stay up till midnight so I could start with a semi-normal sleep pattern.
The next day I went into Glenwood and I got to meet all kinds of new people and learn all sorts of new things. Then later I got to go the Werts for supper. They were very welcoming and it was especially nice to talk to Alan and Carol Wert since they are from America originally so they understood all the cultural differences I was experiencing.
Moving on to Friday, I got to go into central Cardiff! Kelly, Jacob, and I went on a scavenger hunt. Which was a bit scary for my second full day here. But it went really well. It was a lot of walking around but it was a nice day so it was quite enjoyable. We also did some bus riding as well as spent a little time on the train. It was a good chance for us three interns to get to know each other.
The only thing I did on Saturday was go to a movie night with some other girls. I had quite a good time. Even though I was a little out of my comfort zone with us watching a chick-flick. It was so nice to feel included when I had only been here a few days!
Sunday was a new experience going to Glenwood for the first time. I did really enjoy myself though! The worship and teaching really spoke to me. Even though the entire service was completely different then what I would be used to it was almost like that didn't matter, because I was still worshiping the same God with the same church (meaning the church as God's people not a specific building or congregation). I am very excited to go back and worship with them more!
Monday was my first official day volunteering. I got to experience Sprogz (kids age 5 and under). It was lots of fun! I think I enjoyed talking to the moms just as much as playing with the kids! I also got to go to a youth club called deep house. We talked to the youth about the question "Does God heal people?"
The next day I had various meetings and got to go to a teenage girls club called Sassy Gals. I connected with one girl there about tv and she talked to me the whole time about it. I was so glad that she felt comfortable and even happy and eager to talk to me. In fact as cool as it was to meet all the volunteers this week my favorite part was definitely the kids and young people who I got to interact with. Seeking them get even a glimpse of what Jesu is all about was so amazing!
Wednesday I did two different kids clubs and enjoyed them both! They were very high energy but what else do you expect from kids. I am excited to go back and help out in those clubs more.
Then on Thursday I got to be a part of my first intern teaching session. Which I thoroughly enjoyed! We started a book that we are going to go through called "Lead Like Jesus". We spent a lot of time during the teaching session looking at King Josiah's life and seeing what attributes made him a good king and leader in God's eyes. That night I also went to a youth club called MUD. Its basically a safe space for young people to come and hang out with their friends.
Friday was my first time taking the bus by myself. Slightly intimidating because I'm so new at this, but all was fine.
Now we are almost caught up! Yesterday was the first day I didn't leave my house since I've gotten here. I did however have my friend and fellow intern over to watch a movie. Overall a very relaxed day.
Sunday was very similar, very relaxed! I am excited to get back to it tomorrow, though. I love to keep busy!
I think I'll close here this seems quite long enough. Thank you to all who took the time to read this and are praying for me. Speaking of prayers I have one specific prayer request that I'll leave with you all now. In the next couple of weeks I am going to be figuring out which Ministries I am going to focus on. I pray that I would connect well to the clubs God wants me to be in more long-term.
Blessings,
Tori
