Tuesday the 19th or March

A Day in the Life of an Intern
(March 19)

I hear my alarm sound and open my eyes just long enough to shut it off. I lay in bed with my eyes closed. I switch my brain on and start thinking about what I'm going to do for the day. I decide what I want to wear and what I want to bring for lunch. Once I've procrastinated as long as I can, I climb out of my bed and get ready. As I finish packing my lunch I realized I'm ready in time to catch the bus before the one I was intending. So I decide to head to work early and make a few encouraging notes to give to a couple of the girls while I'm at Chistian Union.

I reach the bus stop right before the bus turns the corner and I flag it down. I get on the bus and then listen to a sermon I missed a few weeks back because I was helping with sunday school. I get to Glenwood with about half the sermon left. I head into my office. The building is quite quiet, not many people are in today. But Meg is in our office so I chat with her a little. I look up a few quotes about being yourself and write them on little pieces of paper. Not long after I write them Jacob and Matt come in. I fold the little notes as they others tlak about Meg's plate of lettuce and about getting pet sheep. Then it is time for Me, Jacob, and Matt to leave for Christian Union. We jump in the car and drive a few minutes down the road to St Teilo's High School.

We meet Em at the school and the rest of us sign in. We walk upstairs to the library, our usual spot. The kids make a big deal about Christian Union not being on last week. One of my favorites is "I haven't seen you in five years!" which is just a little bit of an exaggeration.

Matt is incharge of the story today, and since we are going through the story of Joseph, Matt reads Genesis 39:1-23. After he reads it he asks the kids what happen in the story and they sum it up in their own words. When we are doing that one of the young people say "Then Joseph became Potiphar's slave of the year." (That was one of my favorite parts of CU, quite hillarious!) Finishing Christian Union we head downstairs walking by kids in the hall I recognize 5 or 6 kids from Mud. Itd nice to know that I am slowly starting to recognize the kids. In the lounge by the door I see one of the girls I know from mud so I say hi and tell her I hope to see her on Thursday at mud!

Then we drive back to Glenwood. Where I get a few hours free to do what I want. I ate food and did some writing.

Before I knew it two-o-clock had rolled around and it was time for me to go to my first friendship! Friendship was a lovely experience. I had missed spending time with the older generation! I love spending time with my grandparents and of course haven't been able to do that since I'm away from home. I enjoyed singing a few hymns and just visiting and getting to know the amazing people in this group. A handful of them I already knew but the were also some new faces.

It barely took any effort from me to show up, talk to a few people, and leave but to see how happy they were to have me there was amazing to me. To me I didnt do that much just showed up and made friends with them but that's all they want.

One of the things I've learned from this internship is that just showing up means a lot to people. They don't want a perfect person and sometimes they don't want any help at all. All they want is community. If someone asks me what my job is, if I was to narrow it down to one thing, I would have to say that it is being a friend.

After I was done at friendship I went to the bus stop and waited. It was quite late which was annoying because I was meeting Kelly. It did however give me the chance to listen to the rest of the sermon from the sunday before with I had missed because I was in the youth class.

Once I finally got on the bus I went a little way then Kelly jumped on as well. We went to my house and watched tv till it was time to head to house group. We took the bus in town to Matt's house. We were one of the first ones there but soon the rest showed up and we watched a video.

In the video we learned that we can come to God in our brokenness and with our imperfections. Even though we often feel like our damage is outside of God's reach. We talked about how God can only work with what we give him. If we keep our problems to ourselves and try to solve them on our own we will just end up failing. Only God can fix us but God can only fix us if we let him. It was a really powerful message. As usual I loved talking to the girls after in our small group discussion time!

After we finished house group Kelly and Cerys and I bussed it to Macdonald's to further socialize. I then went home and spent a little time chilling before I went to bed. Over all it was another lovely Tuesday spent with some of my favorite people!
